Fuel Pump Problems
I recently replaced my 351w in a 1965 f100, and finally got everything running smoothly. Unfortunately, it goes through fuel pumps as fast as it goes through gas.
I had reinstalled the original mechanical pump, the engine ran for awhile, and suddenly I had no fuel pressure. I replaced it with a new mechanical pump, and bought a clear filter to watch the fuel.
It ran for awhile, and I had to replace the filter often. That pump died on me, so i took it back for the warranty, and got another. The truck had been sitting for 3 years, before the engine was replaced, so i figured the problem had to be with the gas tank. I took it out, cleaned it, reinstalled it, and the gas in the filter was 10 times clearer than the old.
Yesterday, I drove it 30 miles, and it died again. I checked before the filter, and sure enough - no pressure. Any ideas? Short of always carrying a spare fuel pump, I am not sure how to figure this out.
