>I’m trying to replace my turn signal switch on my 1985 F250 460. By the way the truck has tilt steering. The problem seems to be is I can not pull the turn signal switch housing assembly from the steering shaft. The universal U joint is too big for it to slide out from the housing. Also the switch connector is to big to pass through the housing itself. Unless I pull the housing assembly. Which I'm trying? Now my only option is change on the turn signal CAM instead of the entire assembly which is cheaper any way. But what is the trick to pulling the housing out from the steering shaft? I notice the Housing center hole is small than the steering shaft assembly.

Here are the instructions from the Ford shop manual, they're very similar to what has already been posted:

Currently i replaced the CAM alone re-using the old switch. So i cut the old cam wiring and re-attached the new one. But upon testing it, found that i might have wired it reversed since the flashing the opposite way. Now on top of this my both front turn signal light does NOT now. Even i have the turn indicator in neutral i can hear the relay also going but without the flashing light on both side. Not sure if all of these issues are related to the reversed wiring? Also my ignition key would not come out in any position. Ohh the hazard works just fine, so i know the signal ligths are working.
I hate this.....! very time consuming figuring it out. it was foolish of me to do this job.

In any case, below are some pics I just took of parts I have in my garage, the pencil & scribe are pointing to the screws that need to be removed and the thing just lifts off:

I don't think there are any more screws than those two but I'm not positive, it's been a while since I've removed one.
Here's a different switch, the pic is washed out from the camera flash but I hope it's still useful:
I finally gave in and got the full turn signal assembly. Now the turn signals are working correctly. The new setbacks, My ignition key is stuck, will not come out at all. The tilt steering is not functioning now, previously it was working not sure what i dislocated on the mechanism. And same with the ignition key. I think its time to enjoy the truck before tackling this issues again.
Thanks,

I can get the thumbler out just fine. Its just the key otself will not come out. Now the Button you are talking, that i'm not aware. I check the truck and it does not have button. Where is that located?
XR
I'm talking about the button on the underside that needs to be pressed in order to turn the key back to OFF (and further back to ACCY) once it's been turned forward to RUN or START.
On my 1981, that button was broken off, leaving only the metal bracket & assembly.

Also, can you confirm that accesories is one notch back from the arrow indicator on the ignition switch? I think i might have compensated to move the mechanical ignition switch further down the steering tube where the wire rod is connected. Actually i do not remember how it was possition. You have some range to move it up and down. I think i have it all the way up?

Yeah, you can just push the tab, that's what I did until I replaced that bracket + tab assembly (required almost total disassembly of the column to do it).
To be totally clear, I guess I should say the tumbler/key positions are:
ACCY
LOCK
OFF
RUN (aka ON)
START
You need to push that button to get they tumbler from OFF to LOCK, I think that'd be more precise.

This is from my 1981 Owner's Manual; the illustration is for a manual transmission, automatics have a similar button in a similar location AT LEAST I THINK THEY DO, MAYBE THIS IS WHERE THE DISCREPANCY LIES AND WHY 86FN150 SAID THERE AREN'T ANY:

I haven't owned & operated anything with an automatic tranny since the mid-1990s....
