"Progressive Snapshot" is an insurance discount program from Progressive insurance. You drive for a month with a data logger plugged into your car, then you send it back. They will offer you a discount on your insurance if you drive safely during that 30 days.
Since it's just a 30 day thing and not a permanent attachment, I don't see the problem.
Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. Where would they plug it into my old '78 F150.? lol.
Do you think they sell that information, just like On Star does? They were in the news for tracking vehicles and driving habits even tho the user was not paying for the service, then they were/are selling the data.
Hope that never happens. In general, I don't like things like this.
1. The might not be accurate -- computers and electronics don't guarantee that. Also, if they use GPS, it used to have problems in 'urban canyons'. Don't know if that's still true.
2. I can think of scenarios that might not come out right depending on what they look at. For example, somebody might cut you off, and you dynamite your brakes to avoid hitting them. They might gig you for sudden and aggressive braking. Meanwhile, the person cutting you off might not show anything.
Where is the "Like" button . I read where they expect you to use it for 6 months and then it's a permanent discount....yeah right or high risk !!!
probably records the ECU memory
