egr valve
The biggest troubles are, lack of access(big hands can be a problem); rusty fateners; rusty tubing.
Most of the time the EGR is towards the back of the engine and it is usually about a 3-4 inch diameter diaphram attached to some cast iron and mounted so it can deliver gas into the intake manifold. Usually there are only one or two other items that even remotely look like an EGR. The key is, it will usually be real close or on the intake manifold and have some plumbing to the exhaust.
The tubing is either rubber or on Fords I think more often mteel, kind of looks like think electrical conduit of that goose neck light stuff. Often the corrugated tubing will be rusty enough that it requires replacement since it will fall apart in your hands.
If the fasteners are rusted tight use some penetrating oil and tapping etc. When you remove it, watch to see if there is a mthin metal gasket between the EGR and the manifold. You don't want to loose it since many replacement EGRs I have bought didn't include one.
I like to use some antisieze on the fasteners when I put it back together.
This is either an easy 1 hour or less job, or it is a beach and you have to work by feel(fat hands are a PITA).
Good Luck,
Jim Henderson
hope it helps
