93 Ranger stick bolt

I want to take my stick off so I can remove my tranny, and my Haynes manual says to remove the bolt and slide it off. But when I got to the "bolt", it had no head, only a nut on it. I can remove the nut, but the stick will not come off. I don't understand the design of this. Can anyone tell me how to get the bolt out and my stick off?

I have placed a couple pictures of the bolt in this album (the nut has been taken off):

Put the nut back on to where the end of the bolt is almost all the way through and then tap on the nut to push the bolt into the hole. Remove the nut and then push to bolt further through the hole until the shift lever will pull loose.

IIRC, when I did it, I removed the nut from one side and threaded it onto the other side. As I tightened the nut, it pulled the shaft out of the shifter handle.

93Ranger, If you're servicing the trans, the repair in the video is a good one to do while you have it out. The kit cost me less than $20 and it's as easy to do as the video shows.

Also, if your shifter is as bad as in the video (mine was) then you should really drain and replace the transmission oil. Did you notice in the video that he didn't have to pull any of the springs out that he replaced? Guess where they went... I found a piece of one of those springs and a lot of metal chips attached to the magnet on the drain plug.

I got it off, thanks to all of you for the good advice. I tried tapping on it, but saw no real movement, so I put the nut on the other side and tightened it up which loosened it up. I had never seen this type of chock before, so it was a learning experience.

Now to get the my truck up on my jacks so I can live under it for a few days.
