installed hedman headers and the included y-pipe on my 02 f250 v10. very easy once we got the 7 broken studs out! it is quieter than with the stock exhaust. i noticed a slight performance improvement and it seems to run much freer. probably a k&n filter next. headers were worth it. what were they thinking with that stock exhaust and y-pipe. the headers were of very good quality! feel free to throw any other ideas you have out there.
The necked down y-pipe was designed the way it was to eliminate the exhaust flutter noise. It worked at getting rid of the noise but obviously made a big restriction point. I figure the flutter is purely the fault of the poor design of the stock exhaust manifolds.(exhaust gases colliding) Replace the manifolds with headers and the flutter goes away.
I'd check to make sure the header bolts are tight after a few thousand miles. The gasket compresses so the bolts tend to loosen up.
The K&N drop in filter will give you nothing in the performance department. I have their FIPK II intake and the difference vs stock wasn't really much.
check mileage at every fill-up. has not improved at all! need some opinons here. next are new plugs(the trucks runs well), and a more efficent muffler. air filter is clean and i have run sea foam through it to make sure injectors are clean. vehicle is well maintained. mileage is always 10.9, 10.7,etc, even when driven easy! 2002 f250 ccsb 110,000 miles.
