'zone strikes again. Did you get part no. 30-2893?
That's what the computer called for. Time to give the manager an ear full?
maybe the worst part about Autozone giving me this is, my auto shop teacher last year had an account with them because they were "better than most". I cant imagine what the others are like.

I avoid the chain parts stores when at all possible, i'm fortunate enough to live in a small town where we still have an independent parts house, the owner works the counter himself, he's there Mon-Fri, 8-6, he knows my name, he knows my trucks......it's not some random kid asking me "2wd or 4wd" when all i want is spark plugs.

I hate living in a city The guys there are normally pretty good, know me by name, manager even remembers the year/make/model on occasion. I just cant believe this. Its not really the fault of the store, more of the reman people labeling the dizzy incorrectly. I called back and complained, they've got 2 coming in tomorrow morning. Maybe Ill see if I cant get some cash off for the trouble.
First make sure your shaft is still in its place. Don't "bump" the motor around to get the oilpump shaft to line up, u may lose your setting. I use a 5/16" socket taped on a long extension to reach in and turn it till it lines up. Tape the socket on so it doesnt fall in the motor.
Ok, went and got the new distributor. They said they'd give me a 10% discount next time I come in. Not much but better than nothing. Put the new one in, had to rotate the engine with a socket on the crankshaft. Engine started, oil pressure gauge stays over the A&L, also showing superb vacuum(22-23 in park). The "empty spray can" lifter sound is still there after a few minutes at idle. How long should it take to get them full of oil again?
Went back out and let it run for a few minutes, revving it a little. The sound died down, so I think Im good. Without having driven it yet, its running excellent. I dont know if its ever responded as well as it is now. Maybe I can milk a few MPGs out of it now.
I had this very same issue with my inline six in my 83. While it isn't a "fix", since I was pulling the old engine shortly I made a restrictor plate for my EGR so that it wouldn't overload the engine with EGR gases on decel.
It worked great fwiw, but I'd rather see you get it fixed properly than rigging up a get-by. Hope ya have good luck with it!
In case you cant tell, the valve is saturated with some liquid. Too thin to be oil, but smells like it. Not gas cause it wont burn.
I filled up yesterday and calculated 7.1mpg. While it was better than the 6.4 I measured after the previous fillup, its way down from the 8-8.5 I was getting this summer.
