2011 - Hidden Grill LED Strobes

I mounted my Amber LED strobes from Strobes N' more in the grill lastnight.

I like them. I may add a second set down lower and set them in a criss cross flash pattern. I am glad I got the E4s and not the E3s as I don't think I would have been as happy with the E3 light output.

As usual, the camera doesn't record the full strobe effect or intensity correctly.

I will be ordering their hide away kit for the rear lights. Eventually, I might order a second kit and mount in the 3rd brake light fixture.

I am switching to LED so as not to have to worry about the power supply and special wiring traditional strobes require. While they have a higher light output, its not really required for my use. I often have to park on the side of the road and have the orange cones out, but wanted additional visibility for safety.

Yes, they have many colors.

However, in most states (mine especially) I cannot use red or blue on public roads. Since I park on public roads often, I wouldnt have been able to use them, so I went with Amber which is permitted for safety uses.

I know private snow plow guys like to use them on private property in some states, but here in Ohio, I've never seen a snow plow with Red/Blue. Only white/amber.

They do but you won't get to drive your truck sitting in a jail cell.
Even with amber, you must be stationary.

Take a picture of how you attached if you don't mind. Did you have to remove the grill?

I did have to remove the grill.

I didnt take a picture because I didnt paint the back side of the brackets I made up, so it looked really bad

I used some aluminum and bent it into a 90, then screwed it to the top side of the back of the grill.

I then ran a wire from there to the upfitter passthru to control them.
I screwed the ground wire into the front metal behind the grill.

If I take the grill off again, I'll take some pictures....maybe even paint the brackets; )

I didnt want to spend the $8 per bracket from the vendor and I had scrap metal laying around.

What controller are you using for the lights and did you get it from the same vendor?

These lights have a controller built in. This is one of the reasons I went with LED, no more big boxes or controllers to find a place for on the truck.

I bought these:

Cool thanks. Are you thinking of putting anything in the back of the truck?

Sure am. Just ordered their hide-away LEDS today.

Going to put them in the bottom of the factory lights.

Strobes N' More - LED HideAways

Will post info when I do that, should be this weekend.

I also put LED strobes on the upper back deck of my GN, and will be wiring with some diodes to have my LED tail lights on the trailer strobe too.

Cool thats what i was looking at too. I assume you will be able to tie into the front lights all on to one upfitter switch?

Yes, but I am debating if I will put front one 1 and rears on 2.

Depends if I have enough upfitters left

1) is for my bed lights and cab dome light
2) were going to be for interior blue led mood light under dash and seat
3) was for front strobes
4) was for rear strobes.

but I think I am going to need an upfitter for my dome light override mode I plan to do. I dont always want my interior lights to come on when I open the door.

This is just great. One more item I must have!!! Looks great and functional. I have been on the side of many icy and snowy roads helping people where this would be very helpful for others coming up or down to better see us.

One flaw I realized tonight. I don't leave my truck running when parked on the side of the road which means my outfitters won't have power.

So I will either have to rewire that specific outfitter for always on power or use a separate switch.

Unless there is no harm leaving the ignition in the run position for several hours.

Although leaving the keys in with it locked seems like a bad idea.
