Oh wow, yeah that's a lot. An NP435 takes 4 quarts to fill it. You'd have enough for 2 1/2 million miles!

That's probably enough for a Freightliner tranny! I know I don't have 2 1/2 million miles left in me! Sometimes I feel like I'm on the last couple of hundred miles and moving in slow gear!

I would like to add to this - Back when my 77 F250 was new the NP435 in it was hard to shift from the day it was delivered. Synchros were replaced under warranty after I drove it a couple of months while it got worse. Even with the synchros replaced it was really bad in cold weather. One time I was at the dealer about it, and the service manager said that he got a bulletin from Ford saying if an NP435 was hard to shift, change the oil to SAE 30 motor oil. They did that and the problems went away. Much easier to shift and smoother operation all around. Never had another issue or problem with the transmission until I sold the truck in 90.

AMSOIL has a 5-30 weight for manual synchromesh transmissions. I may try this one and it comes in quarts.
