So I know this is probably more then a problem but i just need to know what to change. On the beach my truck just wouldnt go forward.. and im pretty sure its just the torque converter since i still had reverse.. just wanted to get second opinions before i go in and take the transmission off and put a new converter in.. do i need to replace the tranny to or would i be good just replacing the converter? I have a guy willing to sell me a new tranny w/ a torque converter with the right bellhousing on it.. 302 bellhousing but should fit my 300 6...
fluid.. looks good.. tranny wasnt hot though.. but i thought id warm it up a bit by throwing it into drive 2nd and first.. and i noticed when i was in first.. i revved the engine up slowly but near the max rpm.. the truck was moving slowly
I know this will sound silly, but is your parking brake engaged? When they're adjusted right, you'd have to nearly floor it to move the truck, but it'll drive in reverse like nothing ever happened.
Have you run it low on fluid in the past? Or do you know if it has been abused by a previous owner?
i can disconnect the parking brake and see.. but it never really worked good in the first place.. its never been low on fluid in the past since ive had it.. but i wont lie.. its been abused by me before.. once i get this fixed ive learned my lesson..
If it isn't working good, then don't mess with it. It'd only hold the truck still like that if it was adjusted right.
How did you abuse it? Might've burnt it up... :\
I don't see that brake line making a difference with the transmission, but it'd make a huge difference the first time you come to a stop light...lol. I'd get that fixed ASAP, or at least plug it so it doesn't dump all your fluid out.
If you get another transmission, you might see if you can get a C6 to fit. They're not the best on gas since they don't have OD (neither does the C4 though, I don't think), and I've heard they suck a bit of HP to run, but they are super dependable and strong. They used them in everything from work trucks to muscle cars to 1-ton diesel duallies.
all the fluids dumped out already.. its sitting in the driveway right now.. i got a guy at les schwab willing to sell me a tranny and converter for $200.. abuse wise.. its burnt up if its nothing else.. but if i can get it working.. lesson learned. so its pretty much the tranny then?
and i did notice.. trying to back it off the beach approach.. whenever i did floor it.. when i let off the gas.. it would the motor would die.. not sure if this helps.. just trying to give as many details as possible
Sounds like a boogered transmission to me...I'd make sure that trans that the guy is selling you is the right one. Bellhousing needs to be the same as the one you have now, as well as the length and it needs to be either 2wd or 4wd, whichever you have now.
Just be conservative with the throttle and how you drive it in the future. You will be glad you did, these are some great trucks to have.
alright.. he said it had a 302 6 bolt bellhousing on it.. and its a c4.. im looking for something that gets my truck going again.. im supposed to drive to sacramento for college on saturday and.. its 650 miles away..
