I have a 73 f-100,302,2brl carb,c4 auto. It's been running great for awhile now, then the other day started running rough then wouldn't run at all.I took the plugs out and cleaned them and got it running again. My problem is it will run perfect with the vac adv unplugged ,but when hooked up it will stumble under slight throttle. It was running good with it hooked up before but now won't. All i did was clean the plugs! Any ideas what could be going on? It has a new duel port dist.
without running the vacuum advance, you'll still get be using mechanical advance, so it will run without a problem. Before I swapped in a new duraspark for my old one, i ran no vac advance because it'd advance the timing too much too soon. I run the vac advance now with the new dizzy, but it also works right.
Also are you running the vac advance on the ported or manifold vacuum port?
Thanks,I guess I'll run it that way until I can figure out what went wrong with it. I'm running the advance on ported vac.If I try to put manifold vac to the advance it kills the engine!
that's weird. I'd help but i'm still learning this stuff too and i've never heard about anything like that. hopefully someone else will come along and have something to say.
Retrace your steps, see if you crossed those two vacuum lines. Did you leave the PVC unplugged? Had something like that on my 74'. I swamp it out eventually for a simpler single unit.
