So I'm getting ready to install my filter on my 6 speed but I wanted to know how you guys connected your filters. Which line is the input and output on the trannie? Does anyone have any pictures of their installation and the connections to and from the trannie? I'd like to see the pictures.

I like the last posted pictures in that link much better than my own, lol.
So what is your idle PSI? once mine is warmed up mine seems to idle at about 10psi. When it's cold it goes into the red and I can hear the bypass valve letting the fluid pass by. It seems to humm a little with a slight squeal. But like I said once it's warmed up the pressure drops down and the noise stops.
I'll be posting pictures tonight when I get back under the truck to finish topping off the trannie.
I didn't put a pressure guage on mine. I just plan on changing the filter once a year. which will be somewhere around 30k. i did put a temp sensor in my tranny and was please to see it run about 50 degrees above ambient temp pulling 18k. whats nice about the manual tranny is the temp will drop 10-15 degrees if you let it idle for 5 minutes.

So is this more of a bypass filter or full flow? Does the filter base need a pressure bypass? What filter number was included with the kit? I would like to make my own kit and save a few bucks.
I don't have the filter number ATM because I have been very busy but the filter kit has a built in bypass if the pressure gets to high, ie a full filter. None the less a filer is a really good idea since the stock manuals don't have a filter, I don't know if the autos have a filter or not. None the less, moving parts and gears means wear, wear means debris and debris needs to be removed to increase reliability and life expectancy.
Question: Is there much to be gained by adding a filter to a ZF6 650? Do they get much crud suspended in the ATF that doesn't get grabbed by the bung magnet?
Also, is the ATF pump strong enough push it through the filter (I guess it's just a positive displacement gear pump so I guess yes)?
Thank you. This site is a great resource. Seems like whenever I Google anything for my SD, this site comes up first.
Kind of an old thread so you may not get too many responses.
I don't have a filter on my ZF-6. I change the fluid every 50k miles and it always comes out looking new. I've got 540,000 plus miles on it currently with no rebuild or repairs. I'll change it again when it hits 550k.
