I have a 2005 F150 with 5.4 i had it to a shop last week to have plugs done! Well now starts the nightmare !!!! Number 7 plug on left bank broke off with threads still in head by the time Teck got the plug out it was helicoil time it did not go good at all so off comes the head it has 146000 on motor so he gets a head at wrecking yard with 92000 on it took all com phaser/ timeing chain tensoner pump off my old head and installed it on this one started truck up and it ran great till you get it good and hot like highway driving make your first stop and it started to run very rough and knock give it a little gas and it runs like a top again the problem is intermitent If it is not all the time does that tell you that it not a problem with the head but with something else like the timing chain oil tensoner or the cam phaser has gone south or maybe both i am about to install new tensoner and cam phaser on that head can someone please help !! I am into it for 2000 now PS Please help
They were motocraft plugs And he had to take the head off becouse When he installed the helicoil he still had a miss fire code on that number 7 plug so he took off the head and took it to machine shop at the shop we fine out that the plug hole is miss alined and the truck has always had a spiting sound come to fine out that this is most likely why the plug snaped off so the cost to fix this head to geting one at bone yard is why the head was changed ...
sounds like a coil problem. im having the same problem and i was told that a weak coil has a hard time firing at low rpm's because of the lean mixture. There are a couple of threads around here about it. im just having a hard time locating what coil it the weak one. Since it is 200 dollars for a whole set.
Well as i said i took the truck in to have the new tensoner oil pump and cam phaser instill got the truck back today runs and sounds like new ... 3000 dollars later! I have to laugh thats all that helps right now. But thanks to all of you for listening ..Now at this rate i'll have to drive this truck till 2025 ha ha !!! Thanks
I have a similar issue. Had plugs changed and now #2 cylinder is misfiring badly. I know he broke a couple plugs but that is par for the course on the 2005's. The plugs are three part plugs and they break off easily. But I am being told I need a new engine! I checked all new pligs and they are in good shape. Also swapped around the COP's with no change.
Gotta find someone good in St. Augustine, Florida that can fix it.
