New to the forum guys/gals and glad to be the proud owner of a 2005 F150 FX4 Lariat...
I just bought the truck this past Monday "as-is" and the clearance lights don't come on. All the other lights wk including the running lights.. What can I do here to start troubleshooting?
Well I'm no clearance light expert, and I won't attempt to be one, but I would think that you need to find where the wiring is for said lights. IIRC they are not a factory item, so they were likely added by the previous owner. Trace the wiring and see if it's inline with a fuse, etc.
Sorry that I'm not of more help. Just thinking out loud here.
Since 150s don't come with clearance lights (nor as an option that I know of) then you will have to trace the wiring and see where it connects. Who knows--previous owner may have even put them on without wiring them just for looks...

A few of us have installed these lights and might be able to direct you some as to what the issue is. First I would start by pulling the A post down both sides. Most of us have run the ground wire down the passenger side and grounded it on the 10mm bolt for the grab bar. The driver side we have run our power wire down behind the dash and hooked into slot 5 with parking lights to get the power. But not everyone does this so you will have to trace it. You will also have to pull the headliner and make sure all those wires are still hooked up correctly or if they even are. I have seen a guy who installed these lights just for looks and never had them working on another truck.
Run a search on the forums here for Recon Cab Lights and you will find a write up down by Tylus when he did his a few years ago. That should help beyond what I posted.
Ok 02transam Welcome to FTE.
I would like to point out that this is the '04-'08 F-150 Forum
There is a F-250 forum that would probably get more people experienced with clearance lights.
Now to help you with the problem.
Remove the cover on inside of the A pillar to find the wire feeding power to the lights.
Trace it down to where it is connected to the parking light power.
Continue with standard electrical troubleshooting checking for the break in the circuit.
Contact me via PM and I will give you my cell if you run into problems I just got mine installed finally after having them sit in my basement for a year about 2 weeks ago. Was a fun project once I got into it.
well guys i figured it out.... the guy never had the lights actually connected to a power source. All has been hooked up now and damn does she look sexy. :-)
