Ok, I screwed up. I bought this 99 F350 Powerstroke from a miner last year. I changed the oil etc but could not get the fuel filter cap off. then I forgot about it.
Now I am driving down to Valdez for some boating and the engine starts running rough and the water in fuel light comes on.
When I get into town I buy a new filter and finally get the old one open.
OMG, it is full of dirt and water. I mean really full.
I flush it out, clean it and put in a new filter. It runs ok but is rough at idle.
When I get home I get another new filter. Clean out the filter housing and change the filter again. It still seems rough at idle. Like it is missing on one cylinder. Runs ok under a load and at road speeds.
The rough idle won't go away.
What else is screwed up. Did I damage an injector?
I would say that you need to drop the tank and clean it out. You could have trash on the foot of the fuel pick-up. Idle isn't pulling enough fuel through to get past the blockage.
Search for threads relating to Hutch/Harpoon mod or in-tank mods.
It will show you how to drop and clean the tank. This mod will help your fuel flow.
