So i just got my batteries (both) replaced with duralast golds and my alternator replaced about 3 weeks ago. Last week, when ever i start my truck (when its a cold start) the batt light on the dash stays on/blinks constantly for like 5 mins of driving then goes away. Its never done this before and my edge insight says my batt voltage is always constantly at 13.4-13.9 volts with the batt light blinking? Do yall think this is a concern??
is your alt a reman Ford unit or a aftermarket unit?
Ford uses very specific alts in their vehicles. Some even have the same casing, but the internals are different.
If you have the wrong Alt (03-04 style) on your 06, that could be causing the issue. The PCM commands the alt to charge or not. PCM might not be communicating with the alt

The PCM ONLY controls the alternator in dual alternator set-ups, NOT in the single alternator trucks.
The "I" circuit from the instrument cluster will initiate the alternator output after the glow plugs go off (single alternator).
I would like to hear more on the dfferent alternators in the early model years vs the later ones. I dont recall hearing that before.

I'm thinking either your alternator is faulty or you have a wiring concern. Check the plug-in at the back of the alternator for a broken or damaged wire. It might be making a partial connection cold and the wire expands enough to make a better connection when it warms. I've seen that before. It's also possible the brushes aren't making good contact on the slip ring. That's usually a bad voltage regulator assy.
No i havent cleaned the two main grounds. The alternator is an aftermarket alternator. I took the alt up to autozone to have it load tested this morning. Its working like it should. I will check the plug behind the altnernator today. Thanks so far!
I have had to replace NEW alternators up to 3 times to get a GOOD one......usually a blinking ALT light means a bad alternator..... take it back and TRY another.
How am i sapose to get a new one when they load tested it and said it wwas fine? I think i may have another auto zone load test it. Bud, i have heard that also a couple times that autozones remaned alts are crap. So if that batt light blinkin usually means ur alts bad? Cause i know both the batteries are less then 2 weeks old.
On my 00 F350 it did same thing you describe it turn out it was plastic melt to cable which contact to alternator. I end use dremel to clean melted plastic off cable then after that it been great and alternator were cooler.

I had the melted plastic problem at the B+ terminal on the alternator to once I cleaned them grounds and ran the dremal at all connections it went away
the light went away for a week and then Boom back on all the time
so I went with a 190 amp from DC Power with the wire upgrade no more issues
heres a pic of it all
