Noise has been getting worse. After it is started, it makes sort of a squeal/rattle noise. It gets worse as I press the gas. It is a cross between a P/S pump going out and an exhaust rattle. Now, the noise doesn't get worse when I turn the wheels back and forth, so I'm leaning away from that.
I know it sounds a little vague, but it is a hard noise to describe. I'm hoping it's not my tranny going out. It shifts fine and was flushed about 12K ago with synthetic fluid. It goes completely away once the truck is completely hot though.
When idling, does the noise change with RPMs? I am going to guess one of the pulleys' bearings is going bad. You could try removing the belt and feeling if any of the pulleys do not rotate freely to try to narrow it down.
It stays steady until I give it gas, then it gets louder. I bought a new belt to put on it, couldn't I remove the belt and start it and let it run for just a minute or so to hear for the noise?
I had the same problem......it was a loud squeal/exhaust leak noise. It was the exhaust manifold gaskets/studs.
I wopuld never have thought it would make the squealing noise but it did.
