This sounds like a stupid question but, I'm going to ask it any way. Will a 302 flywheel fit a 351? Are they the same as far as balance goes? I have a flywheel that I want to stick in my 69, part no. C5AE-6380-E . Will it fit ? Will it work?It also has C7TE-A "stamped" into it.
I've just gone though this and ended up with the wrong one installed the first time (flexplate though).
I'm 99% sure that that flywheel will work. As I understand it, all 351W and 351C engines used a 28 ounce counterwieght. Early 302 used the same wieght but later ones used one approx twice as large (I ended up with the later version by mistake on mine). The change was around 1980. I searched for the part number on Google and it looks to be the early version.
So, I'd make sure it had 164 teeth first. But it looks correct to me.
Not sure what difference fuel injection would make, although this one isn't( not yet) I have heard of the different wieghts though. Just didn't know if this (applied?) to the 351. Thought they might have a slightly different balance due to the differnet firing order. I think I'm going to go with it then and see what happens. What's the worst case ?, I'll have to pull it out again? almost forgot, I do have 164 teeth on both flywheels.
Yep, taking it back out is worst case. You will know immediately if it's not correct when you start the truck. Strikingly bad vibration with the wrong one.
Since you part #s are '65 & '67, you have an early (28 oz) flywheel which will work with the 351 engine. The later (heavier balance) flywheel would have an E0 or E1 ('80 or'81) part #; I can't remember which year it was. Bottom line: you're in good shape.
