Fuel Injector Pump question

So as the story goes, i got a new fuel injector pump for my truck because the old one went bad. One question i have is; can i replace it myself without screwing up the timing, or will i have to have a friend that is diesel savvy come do it for me? Also, is there anyway i could find out the timing setup and do it myself correctly?

Do lots of research and searching on the various diesel websites. And you will eventually need to get it timed with a special meter. From what I have read, the most important part is to make sure to leave the gear that drives the pump in place, so you will not mess up the timing. I believe people leave the housing on, so it keeps the gear in place. If the gear gets out of place, you are in for a headache.
