I probably should wait until I have a picture but I can't (wait).
I have always been puzzled with my data plate on my 56 F-350. For the color code there is a U, which I always assumed stood for Meadow Green (repainted by at least one PO) all fine and good but right after that it has the letters TAN embossed in the metal, in the same stamping as the rest of the plate. The only tan that I know of available that year was a Thunderbird Buckskin Tan (code J), but if it was a custom color from the factory, I would expect the S (Special) code on the truck. What does the "TAN" stand for if not the color?
Will do some more dectective work and possible disassembly looking for color clues. Also try and get a pic of the plate if that would help.
Still no pic but found evidence of the Meadow Green paint on cab floor (under panel overlap and screws). Also on the license plate bracket, which I didn't expect. Still does not answer what the letters "TAN" mean on the data plate.
