I've notice that if I do not let my engine idle for a good 5 mins before I put it in drive it runs rough. It runs rough until it is at full engine temp. Does anyone else have this problem? Or is this something normal? I had the engine scanned and no codes popped. Is there an easy fix for this?
No easy fix that I've found. My truck (and others) have had similar issues. You may look into getting your flash program updated to the latest rev. It has an induction sequence that heats up the injectors before starting, but this can be rough on your FICM if it is in marginal condition. You probably have some injector stiction and that varies on how to solve. Some folks have used a product called Rev-X added to the oil and it helps occasionally. You may have an injector or injectors going out as well and all you can do is replace them, there is no magic fix for a bad or marginal injector.
On my truck, over time I have replaced 4 injectors, HPO pump, IPC sensor, and IPR valve and cleaned the intake manifold thoroughly. Now it runs like a Singer and the first start of the day is quicker than any warm starts.
My advice is to stick around FTE and learn. Read through the Tech Folder at the top of the thread list. You'll start to see some trends in how these trucks need to be maintained and get some ideas on how to tackle your issue.
I am fairly new to this site and cannot offer any advice on your issue, but ...
I had a similar problem even after I replaced the following:
- oil & filters
- both fuel filters
- IPC sensor
- cleaned EBP sensor & tube
- removed and cleaned turbo
- the cat is gutted
After all of this I still had a studder/bucking until it reached operating temperature........... after it got up to temp it ran fine
My next step was to pull the injectors and replace the o-rings ..... I found a substantial nick in one of the o-rings on one of the injectors.
I will let you know if this cured my problem after I replace one of my injectors ....... I broke one of the pins at the electrical connection so I will be replacing it this evening and seeing if this cures my studder.
try changing ur fuel pressure regulator. easy fix. not too expensive. u can do it urself. the fuel pressure regulator is located on the side of the secondary fuel filter. cant miss it. but u gotta pop out tat secondary fuel filter b4 u change the fuel pressure regulator. u dun wan a diesel bath.
also, wat fuel are u using? i use chevron or texaco only, and i use the diesel cetane booster fluid from ford for every fillup. truck runs great. quality of diesel is also a major part of the startup process.
another possibility is u might have some injectors or ur turbo vane start to have some stiction. u might wanna check up on tat. we got tech folders here. and i'm sure somebody more knowledgeable than me will chime in.
i only speak from personal experience. i've worked on my truck for some time and talked to these guys on here, so i learn as much and as fast as i can.
