Cleaned the shop up today -- needed it. Found a "forgotten" case of FL1995 filters that had fallen behind a cabinet. The date code on the case is from 2004.
Use 'em or toss 'em?
I've used filters that were a year or two old but not 7!

Reason: sp
If the filters have been stored in their origional packing containers, in an air conditioned space, with low exposure to humidity, ozone & temperature extreems, the inner components should be ok. Maybe open a box & have a look at the base rubber gasket seal & anti-drainback valve for condition & the unfinished inner metal parts for signs of rust.
I wouldn't call our shop "air conditioned" unless wide open doors count
That was my original concern when I posted - not so much the time but I don't think I'd say they were stored under "controlled" conditions. They appear fine, no rust etc. The other part of this is they will likely sit yet another 4-5 months as we don't have any trucks currently in need of an oil change. I may just toss them.
That would be Ford..... Well whoever's making their filters (FL1995) these days. Doubt they'd sign up to anything. We prob payed around 8 dol per filter so it's roughly a hundred bucks I'd be tossing.
Well if you can't find out anything from the distributor, or Motorcraft, maybe consider offering them on special at cost, at least you'd be recovering what you now have in the filters.
It's thought that Purolator makes the aftermarket Motorcraft filter.
I've run filters from the late 90's that I found in my closet, without anything fouling up or going BOOM, so I'd say go ahead and use them. Any major problems and you'd see them while you were putting the things in.
