A simple way to check the turbo is to remove the inlet tube grab ahold of the nut and push in and out, if it moves in and out a lot you have to rebuild it. If it moves up and down but doesnt hit anything thats ok youll be fine. I dont have a WW I opted for a better solution than flowing less air and went with a bigger exhaust housing to clear mine up

after further investigation i noticed that the egt's were extremely high as well so i then went from checking the turbo compressor houseing and wheel to the intercooler connections and found that the two orange intercooler boots below the y pipe were never tightened after installing the wicked wheel.......embarrased.....but it took care of the high egts and the turbo surge and the HOWL!!! any one know what the orage or red boots are for? not real sure???
