EGR Valve disconected
After my truck lost all power and blew black smoke out the exhaust then cleared up and ran fine for anoter 600mi before doing it again i was able to locate a Ford garage,when they checked for troublecodes none were shown. They had no idea what happened,so after reading the tech bulitens I pulled the plug to the EGR valve. I am now home after 2000 mi of no trouble and a better running truck. Am I hurting anything with this disconected or should I clean and reconect the EGR valve. This in a 2004.

you aren't hurting anything. sounds like your EGR is sticking...and/or you have a clogged cooler
03/04 (without new PCM strategies) trucks can unplug/remove the EGR and no problems. 05+ trucks have to get a tuner to remove the CEL.
Do you have gauges to check EOT and EGR cooler temp?
