engine died when switching tanks 1995 f-250

I have a 1995 f-250 that just died going down the road when trying to switch tanks. It just cranks over and over without starting. After sitting all night it did finally start, just to die after moving the truck. Fuel pump? Anyone have this happen? Thanks

There is a small solenoid under your truck which swaps the tanks I would chk the wiring. I have one for the stock tank and one for my on the bed tank. This happened to me on leave. I was 200 miles into a 700 mile trip when the truck lost pwr and died. The solenoid didn't swap and I ran it out of fuel.

thanks for the idea. We will definately check into that. My boyfriend has been working on it trying to narrow it down do that I don't have to start putting needless parts on it. It started up today and ran great, for about five minutes and then died. Thanks again-

With those symptoms it sounds more like a cam position sensor. Or your just not getting enough fuel. The fuel pump on these trucks is mechanical and it is right behind the fuel bowl. Good Luck. I wont throw out any more WAG's.

Check the fuel pressure on the driver side of the fuel bowl you will see what looks like a valve stem that would be on your tire. Use a tire gauge and check pressure while someone is cranking the truck you need at least 20 psi to fire the engine

^^^^^^ +1; specifically, check the pressure while running on each tank, and compare. If it's lower on the one that's giving you problems, there may be a restriction in that tank; something caught in the pickup for that tank or the like. What's the fuel level in the tank that's giving the problem?
