Need PSOM help.......

Ok guys, I'm smack dab in the middle of a wiring crisis.....Here's nothing...lol

I'm swapping to a 1991 cv instrument cluster, and have repinned all the lights, etc...Turn signals...Hazard lights, etc...All work great...

Now here's the issue....

1)-The temperature hand was pegging like a ****.....After some discussion, between SubFord and I, he noted I needed to swap wires out...

Now the hand doesn't peg, it moves up a tad when the key is off, and goes DOWN with the key ON.....

2)-The fuel gauge only wants to register that there's fuel in the tank, up to a 1/2 tank....When the key is ON....Start the truck, it doesn't regster anymore....

3)-The speedometer its' self is getting to be a PITA.....

It has a single wire deal...Vehicle speed Input, to be precise....

Now here's what i need to know...What wires from the PSOM actually dictate the movement of the speedo hand?

Thanks a bundle guys....

On the truck there are no wires from the PSOM to the Speedometer.
The Speedometer has four pins that plug into the PSOM board.
The Speedometer is a stepping type motor.

I did not know that you were still trying to use the PSOM. I thought you were going to run the VSS wires to pin #10 and #11 of the CV cluster. and if that did not work you were then going to swap them.
If that does not work then you may have to use the PSOM and use the PSOM output to the computer wires for the Speedometer, the Gray/Black and Red/Light Blue wires to CV pins #10 & #11. And then swap them if it does not work.

The Temp gauge is wired the same way a trucks temp gauge is. One wire going to the sender and then sender just changes the resistance on the wire to the cluster and ground. An open wire will peg the gauge and a short to ground pegs it below cold.

For the CV the Coolant Temperature Sender determines current flow through the Temperature Gauge winding. With low coolant temperature, Sender resistance is high (about 74 ohms) and current flow is low. The needle points to "C." As coolant temperature increases, Sender resistance decreases (to about 10 ohms with a very hot engine) and current flow increases. The needle moves toward "H."

For the Truck the Coolant Temperature Sender's resistance controls the Coolant Temperature Gauge's pointer position. The Sender provides 74 ohms of resistance when the engine coolant is cold and 9.7 ohms when the engine is hot.

Fuel Gauge and Fuel Gauges Sender For the Truck.
The Fuel Gauge Sender's resistance controls the magnetic Fuel Gauge's pointer position. The Sender has a resistance of 145 ohms when the fuel tank is full and 22.5 ohms when the fuel tank is empty.

Fuel Gauge and Fuel Gauges Sender For the CV.
The Sender has a resistance of 160 ohms when the fuel tank is full and 15 ohms when the fuel tank is empty.

Sorry I wasn't clearer on this Bill....

You've already given me AWESOME info.....

On the cluster housing, where the 3 pins for the CV's speedo to plug in is labeled...G-Ground, S-Speed Input wire, and B-Power Input wire.....

So yeah.....This is a simple PITA....lol

Even if the temperature hand isn't operable, I need the fuel gauge to work.....

Ok, worst case scenario...I have to actually use the PSOM.....Will it be a toal PITA to mesh in?

Well lets put it this way.
In our Ford Trucks the PSOM converts the incoming VSS signal and then outputs to the computer a signal like the older transmission VSS signal.

So of course you would have to power and ground the PSOM if you were to use it. Also you would need the VSS signal in (2 wires) and the out put ground and signal wire to the cluster and computer (2 wires) (total of 6 or 7 wires if you run the program wire).
