Does any one have any ideas how to fix this? I have one hub that is making a racheting sound when I back up. I've never taken these hub apart and don't look forward to it. The truck also has a kinda strange rotating sound from somewhere underneath, especially noticeable when driving past a fenceor other built uo area.
They really aren't difficult to replace. You will need a hub wrench for the Dana44 which is available at most major parts stores for about $16-18 and a couple of small flat screwdrivers for pulling the C-clips. The auto hubs tend to get "goofy" over time and usually just up and fail when you least need them to. I don't know if you will hear ANY arguement for swapping to a good set of Warn Premium or Mile Marker manual replacements. These are far more reliable than the autos.
The other sound(s) may be related to this as well. I'd fix the hub(s) first and see if the sound goes away.
One afterthought....Some model years had three screws holding the automatic hubs in, others had five. If you have the three-screw variety, you will nedd a hub conversion kit which Warn makes.

Before you go and buy a hub wrench you need to see if you need one or not if you have get one.If it has the 3 screw holding it on then you need the hub wrench and the kit. If it has 5-6 screws it is a direct replacement.
