Bought a Powerdyne centrifugal supercharger for my 1995 F150 5.0 a month ago. Two weeks after I installed it the supercharger started whining real loud and the engine started missing and even stalled! So I called up Powerdyne and they had me send it in for repair. I got it back a week ago and installed it and it runs quiet as a mouse again...but now it occasionally idles erraticaly, and I get a check engine light every now and then but when i tap on the gas it clears. When I pulled the codes I got the following codes.
KOEO - 111, 157
KOER - 313, 536, 538, 632
Checked fuel pressure and it is fine, only have this problem at idle, when engine is off idle it runs top-notch. Any one know what gives and is there a fix for this? The following is the mods to my engine for more info.
Shorty headers, Flowmaster single 3 in inlet and dual 2-1/2 in outlet, MSD 6AL ignition box, Ford Racing 9mm wires, one heat range colder plugs set at .050 (factory calls for .054), timing is retarded a little so that initial is 7 BTDC instead of 10. And the Supercharger.
Are you still running stock fuel injectors and the stock MAF meter?
Also, I believe that kit comes with an FMU. I strongly recommend ditching that and if you can swing it: get larger injectors (30-36 should be fine), a calibrated MAF meter for a supercharger, and a good tune. You will run a ton better and FMUs are known to go bad.
Now that I finished reading your post...blowers also need much smaller gaps than .050. Somwhere in the mid .030's from what I remember. You are right on that heat range for sure. I like the NGK TR-6 plugs, I used them on a vehicle with a 175HP nitrous shot and they worked great. The NGKs are one heat range cooler and a tight gap...either .044 or .034 I can't remember.
You know that MSD makes a box that will pull timing as boost increases right? It is the MSD-BTM I think. You can run full timing off boost and pull it as it increases.
plug gap shouldnt be a problem at idle on a supercharged car. its when boost rises and cylinder pressure goes up that the spark gets blown out. i thought he said it ran good except for idle. see if the fmu hoses are gointg where they are supposed to. the bottom hose on the fmu should return to the tank.
does this truck have mass air? does it have a bypass for the supercharger? if yes are you rerouting the bypass air back through the mass air meter. if not it will cause the maf to go nuts.
Does have mass air, but there is no bypass for the super. It runs great off idle, I have no problem there at all. It's just when the truck is sitting still that it runs a bit rough. Thanks for the advice so far though.
Hmmm, underload is the need for smaller gap. I'll be darned. I thought it was for part throttle only.
That truck is a '95 so unless it is a Manual it has MAF, at least I think it should.
If it is missing idling not moving I think it is the plugs. When I put a 6AL on my F-150, I went to a .044 gap with some NGK UR44 (I think) b/c it was erratic a tad idling. .050 is a big ol' gap for a blower.
Maybe you coil or TFI module is going bad? Did this problem just start when the blower went on?
