Just bought a '05 6.0 PSD Ex and have ran into my first issue. The fuel gauge was showing just above 1/8 tank, when suddenly it went to running very rough and no power. I thought I'd dropped half the injectors. Good thing I'd just pulled into a fuel island. I was out of fuel.
The fuel light had just illuminated and the gauge was still showing 1/8 tank. With a 44 gal fuel tank, at 1/8 tank, I still should have 5 gal in it.
Is there any way to calibrate the fuel gauge so it is a bit more accurate. I just hate the idea of having to keep in mind to fuel it up at 1/4 tank (which is actually 1/8 or less). And my wife drives it, so I see myself hauling fuel to her from time to time when she thinks the Ex has more fuel than it does. (btw my '00 F250 PSD fuel gauge is dead on)
Any suggestions on how to cure this issue is certainly welcomed.
Sniper, I too have a 2005 6.0L PSD and I ran it out of fuel as well. The same 1/8 showing on the gauge. My batteries had gone dead and I had jump started it. A buddy and I went to Hurricane's for some lunch and left it running with the 1/8 of the tank. We came out 30 minutes later to... a truck not running, batteries once again dead because keys on while truck not running, keys safely locked inside because I took the button with me inside the restauraunt, (FYI, the buttons do not work well when the batteries are dead). I was not lucky enough to be in a situation to have pulled into a fuel island. I had to use my brand spanking new Gieco plan to do some roadside assistance.
I am sure the poor sap that showed up had no idea what he signed on for... [insert circus music here] He showed up in a mid size car, cute little sleeping baby accessory in the backseat, 2 gallons of diesel, (only after he called me to see if I thought 1 gallon would be enough), and one of those smaller hand held battery chargers. Oh yeah, and evidently a time limit that I found out later after the procedures started.
I am sure everyone here has a good imagination and can put together that it did not go well that day for that young man...
What I took away from this little pickle... 44 gallon tank, 1/2 wayish mark on the ol' fuel gauge, pull over to the Shell, whip out the Winn-Dixie Fuel Perks card, swipe, whip out the VISA, swipe, and fill the frickin' tank back up, rinse, repeat...
What is good about that procedure is that it does not feel as bad as filling up all $$44 gallons$$ at one time, which at all the stations down here you have to run your cards twice because they max out anyways.
But if you do get a good answer here I would probably be applying it as well even though I will probably not ever let it get that low again...
It doesn't bother me like a lot of the idiots that sold their paid for trucks for an econo box so they can have a smaller sticker shock at the pump but a long term payment. When I fill up, I have a Fleet Farm that lets me buy some stupid item like a bag of candy and give me 4 cents off fuel. I fill up and go in to pay with the coupon.

aklim, I didn't say it bothered me either, I made a decision at the beginning of this year, despite everyone saying why would you buy a guzzler that big when fuel prices are as high as they are, to go for it and buy one of these beasts. I am very happy with owning it and have no regrets at all and I do not blame the FTE Club that much for the peer pressure. Sadly though, I am just not in the "Paid For" Club yet.

Wasn't referring to you. It did bother my neighbors. I just sat and laughed whenever the bragged how they saved money at the pump. One particular day, I was feeling and asked, "How much do you save considering the new loan you took out?". They gave me the look like I just asked something unheard of. Priceless. BTW, they took a bath on the trade in too since it wasn't worth anything and they wanted to sell their old paid off truck and the salesman didn't have to try since people were lining up to buy the econo box.
