I suppose this would relate to the year or years of the trucks. Mostly
in the fiftys all atleast I know of were Clarks 5 spd. 4spds mainly
Warners then getting in the sixtys they used a lot of Spicers med and
HD. then N Process. My guide has been Clarks 1st & reverse being to
the right with rev up to the glove comp. Spicer 1st to the left with rev
up to the instrument panel. Im pretty sure of this cause I have all
four of these 5sp trannys. I have not had any issues with either one.
Thanks - I know it would help if I had the VIN stuff but it's in a truck I'm going to look at and that's had the tran replaced. Now, the new tran is still acting up (hard to shift between certain gears ....), so I just wanted to check if there was a trans to AVOID. BTW - this is a 5+2 in a 1991 F600 6.6L rig I've mentioned in a previous thread.
Thanks again.
Sorry, didn't recognize the name--seller is getting that fixed, right? Difficulty in shifting could be synchros or could be a clutch issue.
AFAIK, IIRC, never seen any comments here about 5 speeds to avoid by model etc, just some common problems with the NV4500 in Dodges, and the usual "worn out" condition of high-mile units.
