It's always best to stay with the OE tire size. The company goes through alot of R&D to ensure the best tire size for the best all around performance of that vehicle.
2005 F150 Supercrew needs new tires. Currently has 255-70-18 Pirellis on it.
I wouldn't mind gettting a beefier tire as long as the rim/well will fit.
ANy ideas? This newbie thanks in advance.
Welcome to FTE.
2wd or 4wd?
The 4wd 18" stock tire size is 275/65/18, if I am remembering that correctly. You would be increasing the overall diameter of the tire by about 0.07% which is not enough to worry about the speedometer and odometer reading differently, or the transmission being affected.
Here's a good calculator to use for size comparisons: http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp
There are a variety of tire choices in that size of 275/65/18. BFG makes a nice All Terrain K/O, Toyo makes the Open Country A/T, Nitto makes the Terra Grappler and so on.
