the first is the oil puke on the trailer, the second is the 85 parked near the shop.
the third is my 74 resting in the shade. more to follow. first pic was too big. it was just a big ole oil stain anyway.
a few pics after I spent a day in the shop. first is the engine bay, second is the fully dressed engine on my home built engine stand third is one reason the ole gal was runnin hot. leaking head gasket on left side. Notice the fresh 460 in the background of pic 2. By the way pulled engine and trans in one shot. that IDI is a heavy bas**rd.
Well we know why it ran like crap one side was blow completely between the center two. the other was partially blown in the center. and leaking coolant to the out side at two places. All the fire rings were egg shaped. My guess either. Don' really know much history, but the mechanic that had it outside his shop for two years thought it was a busted cam. guess he didn't do a compression test.
After i had the valve covers off I barred the engine over and the valve train appeared to be working alright. Will know more in a few days when I pull the front cover and lower end. Thanks for looking.
Is the 6.9 going back in the truck, or is the 460 replacing it?
Plan is to put the 6.9 back. It was built in may of 85 so I "THINK" it is the stouter block. ain't sure maybe someone will chime in with an affirmation or a guide on how to help me decide. Anyone know the dates or casting codes?
