If you sold a car to your next door neighbor, because he needed it for
a family member (needed it cheap) and a few days later the car was
absent from their driveway....and finding out that they sold it....for way more
money.....would you be upset? Or is it the American way? Capitalism? sort of speak.
I know it is their car now, but......come on.
I donʻt like selling this kind of stuff to people I know, I did buy a cheap truck
from a close friend of mine. I did sell it for what I paid for it, after some
mods and repairs though.
Silly human pride. Did you not agree on the terms? And now you want to go back on them?
What right do you have to dictate what he does with it after he buys it?

Sir, you are correct of course. But it's the feeling of being taking advantage of that would get to me.
About 16 months ago I gave my daughter and SIL my 1999 Taurus. We bought it new and it was meticulously maintained with all records to boots.
We I gave them the car, I had changed the serpentine belt, did a coolant flush and changed two hoses, mounted 4 new Yokohama tires and had performed a 4 wheel break job. I wanted them to have a nice car. Knowing that Illinios has no state inspection and legal force to ensure that cars are safe I went ahead and performed much of the work ahead of schedule.
They brought the car home on vacation six months later and it was in horrendous condition. The finish on the wheels was all eaten away from the previous winter, the car was just real shabby looking inside and out.
Six months later the torque converter failed and the car enjoyed a tranny flush every 30K. They never checked the oil, trans fluid, coolant levels or anything. The added gas and drove.
Just one of many reasons why you don't sell things like vehicles to people you know.
I apply that to family members but friends are a case to case deal. Last year I sold a snowmobile to a guy I know, he doesnt have much money so I let him have it cheap. He ended up flipping that one to another guy I know, after that it got ugly. Just today he bought another sled from me and believe me he paid full retail. He knew my quality so he never even haggled. I buy wrecked/blown up snowmobiles every year and rebuild and sell them, just a hobby of mine really that sometimes I get lucky on. Keeps me busy and fresh parts flowing through my garage.
