Clunking from rear Diff
Problem on early 2001 Sport Trac 4X4
I dont have the whinning but a clunk when I go over bumps.
I jacked up the left side and I can pull the rear wheel in and out maybe a 1/32 and I hear the clunk so I'm sure the loose rear end is the problem. How do I go about fixing it? New/used rear end? Mine is a 2001 (drum rear brakes)

I am pretty sure there is always inward and outward play with all rear ends.
any amount greater than a 1/4 inch maybe an issue.
Have you replaced your shocks in the recent past? If not, check shock bushings for wear or if they are still there.
Check anti sway bar bushings.
Check leaf spring bushings.
If you are not familiar with these items, take the truck to a suspension shop/alignment shop for an inspection. When was the last alignment?
or shock replacement?
10 year old OEM rubber parts are old, especially on a high mileage truck.
