has anyone blown up an Ecoboost yet or had any major problems?
They ran out of them at my dealer so I tool the 5L, and am wondering in retrospect if it was a wise choice, if I missed out on something good or if I made a wise decision???
I'm curious how many EB trucks have been sold in just the first MY alone. Seems to be a pretty popular choice. I have really only heard of a few that had some issues.
Normally aspirated engines are more economical in terms of repairs, and therefore last a lot longer.
I think you made a wise choice. You will not regret it over the long haul.
Making a repair reduces it's life expectancy? I'd love to read this one.
I think the 5.0 or the 3.5 were great choices either way. The eco is popular for obvious reasons but the pony is a great V-8 and I would be proud to own one. In fact, I had spec'd several trucks specifically for the 5.0 but the eco truck fell in my lap and I couldn't be happier.
If you plan to keep the truck beyond the factory warranty period a naturally aspirated motor makes more sense, but if not by all means get the fancy toy.

I traded my 04 6.0 diesel with 146k on this one, original turbo.

Which is just broken in for a diesel, what's your point? My '90 is now a 21 year old truck with 400kms(250k mi) on it and a lot of original parts still in fine working order, while my dad has an '05 that needs a new rear axle at 50kms(30k mi). They don't build em like they used to.

His point is that the turbo was working just fine. I do get tired of people saying how the 5.0 is going to be more reliable the eco boost. Can you folks see into the future? I think that either engine is a great choice. Besides there is just as many moving parts/technology in the 5.0 (if not more) then the eco... Get over your short sighted thought process.

And my '88 was a POS. Engine replaced at 105K miles, rear axle crapped out at 225K. The syncro's in the transmission were shot and she had rust creeping all over the place.
I agree with you sir. Thank God they don't make them like they used to.
IMO, a turbo is a turbo. It's a spinning vein that moves tons of air. It works on diesel trucks just fine, why not the 3.5L gas?
I'm actually more concerned about the new six speed in any of the F150's more than I am about a single component on the ecoboost.
^^^ Yep, thats my point. I assumed your comparison was between " a naturally aspirated motor or a fancy toy" difference being the turbo(s). I took it that you were saying the turbos wouldn't hold up. Sorry if my assumption was incorrect
As a side note, the turbo was one of the things that DID hold up, lol. Thanks International...
I went with the 5.0L because I just like V8's more. It makes more than enough power to satisty my wants/needs and sounds 100x better IMO and gets about the same mileage as the Ecoboost.
If you enjoy the sound of a V8...then you made a good decision. On the other hand, my Ecoboost sounds just fine under acceleration and the power is just.......just....incredible.
I'm still waiting for someone to vid a drag race between the 5.0 and EB. From the unloaded numbers I've seen they run pretty much identical times, which makes the 6.2 seem pointless.
Don't forget that you can't get a 36 gallon tank with the EB. We ordered the EB at the beginning of the year but having to wait and the size of the gas tank issue we went with the 5.0. Good thing we did. Driving through Alabama after the tornadoes we couldn't get gas for over 300 miles.
