well your problem could be something as simple as piston slap or timing chain adjusters not tight and you are getting chain stretch

on the conversion yes it is technical but there are so many of us doing it with so many Ideas I am doucmenting my build so any questions let me know

here is a link to my photo bucket

Ill have to check that out. I can adjust all i want but as for my finances, i think im just gonna drive it til it blows up. Im hoping to sell it for a couple or few grand as well as my transmission but thats a pain in the *** within itself. Im only getting 11mpg on my 60 mile round trip commute everyday. But....the power is there! Any thoughts on the c6 auto trans? I saw a 12v on ebay paired up with an allison transmission already. Fairly cheap too. 81k miles in a schoolbus.
Now i know in california, smog prohibits me from doing this swap in my 01 super duty. But is there anything stopping me from registering it to a po box in el dorado county? Or napa? Smog exempt then?

If you are looking for a bullet proof, non-electronic auto than the allison is hard to beat. I rebuilt a few, years ago. They looked like a super-sized TH400 inside. The down side would be no overdrive, at least in the ones I rebuilt and some dont have park. With the gearing you have, that would be a problem. Diesels dont rev high. There are calculators on-line that can tell you what rpm at what speed with what gear and tire size. I think I've seen one on Randy's ring and pinion. I run 1500 rpm at 65mph in overdrive with 3.73 gears and 35 inch tires. The upside is they would last and they came stock on cummins engines(no adapters). I would do alot of research before I'd jump into that. The physical size may require body modification and how to adapt t/case. A divorced t/case may have to used.

Yea that is a big problem with the transfer case...would the c6 mount up to the manual new process t case? Would a gear vendors overdrive help? I believe the c6 is a 3 speed with no overdrive as well. My v10 runs around 2200@65 mph with 4:30 and 33's.... too high! No wonder it sucks the gas driving the speedlimit!

So i sold the ranger finally. Now i have a little bit of cash to play with. Looking into putting a 3 inch level but worried about the weight difference of the two engines. Any input? and would you guys reccomend buying the engine or the parts to mount it up first. I want the newer 215hp version right? So a 98 preferably? The c6 looks good but its a 3 speed with no overdrive... I wanna get the ball rolling i have enough to start buying the parts now just need to know where to start. I might be able to swindle a spare car while i do the build. Know where i could sell a v10 +4r100 with 130k?

v10

put your v 10 on craigs list when I sold mine I had a list of 22 people that wanted it if it is the 99 model ask 1500 you will get it that motor is in high demand the next generation engine is a better engine and they will not interchange and it seems that most of those that wanted it were in minnesota I am not sure why but that is where I had most of the people that wanted it

trans

I would be concerned with automatic if you want a automatic I would go with a 47rh it is a 4 speed and non computerized me personally I went with a manual less headaches and easier to overhaul

look at these trannies I have always heard good things about them

3062164 - ATS Diesel then no adapter plate is needed

the 47 rh is built on the 727 tf platform and that trannie was bullet proof if you get one that is rated for diesel you will be better off

I think some of the older 6.2 and some of the early 6.5 diesels had trannies that were non comp dont know if they would hold up to a cummins the cummins is a torque engine and can destroy a tranny just thinking about it

don't know if this would help I was talking with my dad and he reminded me that we have a bus that has an Allison it has a v8 cummins in it he bought it for the tires to put on his grain truck those trannies are indestructible

I blew a getrag up going up a hill pulling a trailer with a 91 1st gen and wasn't even getting to it hard and I blew a 47re up pulling a tractor out

So I've been searching dearly for an engine and transmission and I think ive found them both. after months of searching I'll let you fine folks be the judge of this....
My transmission choice is a Built Ford AOD 4 speed hydraulic lockup.
It's called the destroyer 700hp and 650ftlbs of torque, but I've been in contact with the shop who builds them and they said they under rate their transmissions and they are plenty beefy for a diesel application.
They mentioned they build them non lockup for some guys who want more HP, but they recommend stock lockup converter for my daily cruiser/occasional lead-foot racer application

Next is my engine. I've been searching "mainly Ebay" for a low mileage unit.
also looking for the p7100 fuel injector stock on the unit as well as higher HP.
I found a company that has a great warranty, great shipping rates (free)
AND the engine I'm looking for! its a CPL # 1551 190 HP stock with the p7100 pump pulled out of a bus. 150k on the engine. JUST BROKEN IN!
the companies warranty is listed in the details of the Ebay posting.
PLEASE!!!! LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!!!!!!

Sounds good. Just a thought, the warranty is usually time, so you may want to get those last so you have full advanatage of warranty. Ive done that in the past, bought parts for a project and stored them for awhile until I put them in. By that time the warranty had expired. What time frame are you looking at to start the swap?

Well i have the money for the transmission forsure. Im trying to get in contact with destroked about adapters. Im still kind of ****ed as far as smog goes but i might know a couple people who could help me with that.
I really need to get a step by step plan in action. I only have about 5 grand budgeted not including the money i get if i sell my engine. What am i looking at as far as parts after the trans engine and mounts? I want dual tanks too. I have been more so looking for the right engine and trans rather than reading up on stuff i need to know about the swap.
I am going to try and get a coworker to help me as he has done 4 diesel conversions just not a 6 bt into a super duty. He still knows more about my truck than i do haha. I also am gonna need a car to drive in the meantime. But i want to get this swap done now!
All and all i will have some more money after the 1st of the year come tax returns. And could possibly start carpooling to save money and not have to buy a car to get by. I hope i can get someone i know to smog it after i do the conversion or im really screwed. I always do have a few things i could sell if i run out of money too. I wish there was diesel conversion for dummies!
