I have a 1989 F150 4.9 Mazda 5-speed 2wd truck that I just bought. The truck sat for about 2 years and I have installed new fuel filter, air filter, breather filter, pcv valve, new Motorcraft plugs, Autolite wires, new distributor cap & rotor button, cleaned out the throttle body and IAC valve and I still have a cold start idle issue.
When you first start the truck it will want to die unless you hold it to around 1500-200rpm for around 30-60 sec, then it will idle normally. I have also had some bucking and hesitation that I believe to be either old gas or water in the gas where it sat for around two years.
I believe I have gotten that solved as it hasn't bucked any the last two times I drove it. I pulled codes and the only code was for neutral safety switch. Any ideas as to why it wont idle until it gets some heat in it???
