Looks like you have a plugged oil cooler. That is quite the spread. Need to start figuring out how you are going to fix it.

This week while pulling 8900#, my EOT got that high, but my ECT was 218-220 at that time. (With the Fan running about 3500 rpm).

Oh, and does the ECT and EOT sit at the same temp first thing in the mornings? Within a degree or 2?

yes the coolant is higher when i first start it up and they are neck and neck, the more i drive the more the oil seems to get hotter and hotter while the coolant peaks at around 190, before i bought the scanguage i thought my thermostat was broke because my autometer electrical that has the sender in the block shows only 180 when the scanguage shows around 190.

I was considering doing away with the coolant exchanger type oil cooler and going with the bulletproof condensor type found here that mounts to radiator, anyone have ? and how do they like it. it seems llike it would eliminate this from being an issue again. FWIW i can thank you guys enough, without this site i would not like owning this truck as much, you guys teach me alot

those 2 temps Need to be within a degree or 2 max after cold soak at startup

how much diffrent are they

there are a couple diffrent SG codes to try and bring those 2 temps ECT & EOT together at cold startup

my ECT & EOT within 1 dgree every morning with both right at ambeint temp usually TFT should be right there 2

One time I had that type of spread, but I was running unloaded 85 mph, but once I slowed down the spread started to drop. I'm getting my coolent flushed and everything soon, hopefully I don't see that type of spread any more. I have talked with my warrenty company and they need a reason for the work. I'll eventually get a BP oil/EGR cooler, which by what I've read will run better than OEM.

I put the BPD oil and EGR cooler on my truck about 6 months ago and I enjoy not worrying about the oil cooler anymore. It took me two weekends, but I had no idea what I was doing and had to lookup videos and how to's several times (especially when I couldn't find the back turbo bolt). I had never worked on diesels before this endeavor.

Anyway, I digress... I watch my temps on a ScanGauge II and pulling about 8,000 lbs on a hot summer day my oil temps will hit 230 with my ECT at 210. 233 was the highest I saw this summer in this humid, hot section of the wonderful place we call America. The fan kicks in high gear and the temps drop quickly on both EOT and ECT.

Unloaded running 60 mph, my oil temp is usually about 100 - 110* above ambient, for the first 30 minutes on cool mornings (60's) and then slowly meanders up to 180 - 190*. I'm curious to see what the temps will run in the winter here (mild winters). They also have a cold weather setup if you live in colder climates.

I've been pleased with the setup. Quality machined aluminum and heavy duty aircraft hydraulic hoses to move the oil to and from the air cooler.

going to need my truck to tow my 35ft TT in a couple weeks, i was reading through the tech folder on flushing the coolant system and if i read it correctly he got his within 9 degrees with just the coolant flush,by backflushing the oil cooler is that something i could do so i am able to take the camper, i plan on doing the bpd oil cooler after the first of the year what are your thoughts? I know with a 30+ degree spread it is russian roulette as it stands now, i can't imagine how hot it got driving back from the keys as i just bought the Scanguage

I've read where guys do the back flush and it immediately helps, but then the delta comes back as bad or worse than before within 1,000 miles. Others have done it and it stays pretty good. If it were me - I would just fix it rather than a band-aid. But that's what I would do. I would hate to get stranded and then beat myself up for not going through with something I knew would fix it. Do you wanna hope - or do you wanna know it's fixed??

I agree with you 100%, only i have 2 weekends left before i need it, and i won't have that kind of money for the condensor type that i want to do until tax return, and i can drive my gasser until then as the truck is not my daily driver............................................ .................................................. ...........
.......... ugggggghh! you are right , i guess i was hoping for a , "the oil cooler backflush will hold for the 400 mile trip up and back until then"

Two weekends would be a squeeze... Plus you don't have the parts and that takes a week, not to mention the funds. It took me two full weekends to get mine done, but it was my first time wrenching on the truck.

I would just play it safe. You don't want to have a meltdown while out with your TT (and family I'm guessing). You have a large delta on your truck, especially at no load. Don't push it...

I did the flush and backflush and got my spread down from similar to yours to about 15 or 16 degrees.

I consider that I have bought myself time to wait for a few months to do the cooler swap when I get some money next year, but I would not tow in this condition, and I don't recommend you do this either.

I didn't yet go as far as jfirstford did, all mine was done over a 2 week period as I got rid of the Ford Gold, flushed with Restore and VC-9, and ended with ELC and a filter. there was perhaps an hour total of cold or hot water backflushing of the oil cooler, radiator and heater during all that time.

I still intend to drain the new ELC while hot and backflush it through the cooler using his hand pump design, but I haven't even put the pieces together yet. I was just so happy to get it 'almost good enough' with relatively little work, I haven't messed with it now for a month or so.
