Question Short Shafted...

Is anyone using a small block "Top Loader" 4-speed on a 360/390FE engine with a truck bellhousing? Have you noticed if the splines on the input shaft fully engage the splines in the clutch disc?

I'm going to ask this question a bit differently. On another site they say that it's okay to use a Ford small-block "Toploader" 4-speed with an FE truck bellhousing. The longer small-block transmission's input shaft does fit properly into the pilot bushing like they say but the splines on the shaft don't fully engage the splines in the clutch disc. The splines only go aproxiamately 2/3 of the way into the disc. It seems to me that this would be the same with every installation using the small-block "Toploader" behind an FE truck bell. If this is true wouldn't this be a weak spot? What do you guys think? Has anyone else on here done this tranny swap/install?
