I have a 2001 f-350 7.3 powerstroke. It has a 6 1/2 inch lift and 35" tires. I also have straight piping to dual 6 inch stacks. Last week i put an edge programmer in my truck and put it at the lowest setting. This progammer shows me my EOT and TFT and several other miscellaneous gauges, plus i have a EGT add-on coming in the mail. Well my problem is that when i drive my truck for about 20-30 minutes after its warmed up, the EOT gets to about a steady 210 degrees and higher if i ever get on the throttle, unless i just roll down the road which it may cool down to 205 then. Same thing with my TFT it jumps up to a steady 200-205 degrees. From what i have read and heard a good EOT is less the 220 degrees, and a good TFT is under 210 degrees. Is there anything in particular I can do for my truck to keep the temperatures down? if so whats the best option?
What is your ambient temp at the time? I run that EOT with a 203* coolant t-stat and 100* ambient. Do you have any auxillary trans cooling other than stock? You are pushing more resistance with your lift & larger tires and these can be factors in raising temps. A larger, or supplemental, trans cooler will help greatly with the TFT. Too high EOT can be reduced with a cooler t-stat. Overall, your temps sound about normal for a stock configuration.
What do you mean by a cooler thermostat?.. Do you mean a bigger radiator then stock?.. Or a bigger oil cooler? And will a mishimoto heavy duty Trans cooler with a fan do the job for my transmission?.
You can get a 180f,195f,203f maybe more thermostats, try installing a lower t-stat....also as far as the oil temp goes,it usually runs with the coolant temp (pretty close) you may have trash built up in front of your radiator or it may need rodded out...

Yea definitely check for stuff in front of the radiator. I pulled my bumper off and got a good look at the bottom of the radiator and was amazed how much junk was stuck in there, tons of wheat grass and debris blocking the bottom half of the radiator.
I checked the radiator, it is a little black in spots would it be a good idea to invest in a new radiator? And how does oil temperature follow radiator temp? my water/coolant temp is a lil under half way on the gauge on my dash. Is there a separate radiator for oil temperature?

The factory gauges are not much more than idiot lights..when they move past where they normally set they move quickly...you have a oil cooler that antifreeze runs through..bottom of the block on Dr side
Im really not sure if antifreeze goes through my oil cooler or not..
I took off my bumper last night and noticed a 2 row cooler right underneath was just a big chunk of straight mud ball. Which cooler is this for oil cooler or transmission cooler? I also did an oil change last night and i will see if that helps out at all

That is the P/S oil cooler. The Engine Oil Cooler in mounted on the driver's side of the engine to the timing cover and oil filter housing. Coolant does flow thru it. Oil to Water Trans cooler in lower radiator tank and Oil to Air Trans cooler is between the A/C condenser and Intercooler.
If i was to upgrade my trans cooler which one would be the one to change? the oil to water or the oil to air?
should i really upgrade the oil cooler too?
There really isn't an upgrade for your engine oil cooler.
Follow your upper radiator hose back to the engine. Where it connects there are 3 bolts on the water outlet. If you remove those three bolts you will find the thermostat under that water outlet. New thermostats are available in the 3 temp settings listed above. You can try one with a cooler setting.
There is also the possiblity of crap plugging the fins of the radiator (as in the pics posted above).
For your transmission cooler, I recommend the 6.0 cooler upgrade. That will cure your trans temp issues for good.
Also last night when I started my truck and let it warm up the smoke was whitish blue for a long while, I know when I'm driving the truck it usually puffs grey or black. Is there anything I should be worried about?..
What was the ambient temp where you live? You could also have a few glow plugs that have failed and it will take a little longer for those cylinders to "clear up" as the temp rises. How did it start? Did it run a little rough after starting?
