C6 Problems
Hey Fellers I got another problem with my 96 ford van. I came to realize that I have a C-6 trans and no overdrive. About a month or so ago my check engine light came on which didn't concern me that much as this has happened to me with some of my other trucks. My problem is with my trans. I am working on top of Signal mountain and the main road was blocked by a fallen tree and had to go up the back way which is very steep. I have a straight 6 in the van and it should have enough power to pull that grade. I had to put it in low gear and it was all it could do to pull it. This is a VERY steep grade and my van wasn't loaded that heavy. At one point on a curve it was so steep that my tires broke traction and I finally let off enough that the tires finally caught back up. Ever since I went up that grade my trans will down shift and upshift and back and forth even on level ground. I have checked my fluid and it is as clean as when it was new and doesn't smell burned. I seem to be losing power also. Do any of you fellers have any suggestions.
Do you have a positraction differential? It might be possible the clutches are burned out? If the differential is starting to slip it would feel like you are losing power and might cause the tranny to hunt gears.
Good Luck,
Jim Henderson
