Block heater safety

Talking to a friend of mine today...He mentioned it getting colder out and we started talking about plugging diesels in...

Well he mentioned his uncle left a diesel plugged in, something went wrong somewhere and the truck caught fire.....

On my 6.0 or any other one for that matter are there any kind of safety switches or fuses that would blow before something went that wrong?

I also would assume the breaker in the garage would trip if something went wrong...

I am only asking because I usually will leave mine plugged in for a few days if it sits and would hate to see it go up in flames....Thanks!

I have two cords short out due to de-icer used on the roads.Use a timer for the set times you need the truck and plug in to a ground fault.

To answer, not necessarily protected with standard breaker. If you do not exceed the current the breaker is rated for. A bad plug/cord/heater does no automatically mean excessive current draw.
