Just did a coolant change to Cat-1 EL coolant. I pulled the lower radiator hose and let it drain. I then stuck the hose back on (loose) and filled up the water fill with a hose. Ran the truck for 5-6 minutes and pushed the hose off to drain the radiator. Did this 7 times until the water ran clear. I then put in restore from Ford and ran the truck around for an hour. I then started over flushing the system to get out the restore. After 7 more flushes I put in 4 gal of distilled water and let it run for about 5 minutes and drained the radiator again. I put in 4 more gal. of distilled water and flushed again. Did this for 12 gal of distilled water.
On the last fill I put in 3.5 gal of Cat EL-1 coolant and ran it for about 10 minutes until it heated up then checked the level. I mixed the last 1/2 gal of coolant with the distilled water for filling it up.
You need a LOT of water to completely get all the old coolant out so just use a hose and for the final flushes use distilled water. I took me about 4 hours to do it but it's worth it. I also installed a water filter. Good insurance.
