I have a 2004 F250 superduty that I tow my 30 foot travel trailer with. I need to replace the shocks on it but I dont want a shock that is going to ride harder then stock but I want it to perform better then stock. Can anyone help me thanks.
I'm very happy with my RS5000s so far, but they are basically a stock equivalent. If you want better than stock, you probably want the 9000s. Bilsteins are highly recommended as well.

Yeah, they probably are a little better. They definitely made a big difference on my truck, but they replaced the factory shocks that had 85,000 miles on them.
Just installed 4 Monroe Reflex shocks on my truck. They didn't stiffen the ride at all just soaks up bumps. The difference compared to stock shocks (that were still good) surprised me. Got them for $170 shipped from Rock Auto and Monroe has a $25 rebate on 4 Reflex shocks.
I installed a set of ProComp ES9000s about a year ago. At first I thought they were pretty bouncy. But, I just got the ball joints done yesterday and they feel much better. Alot smoother than when I first put them on. Just my opinion.
I am a fan of bilstein 5100s, but they will make your truck ride harder, but since you have a leaf sprung super duty you probably won't notice (unless your truck is 2wd, you didn't specify). another really nice shock is the edelbrock IAS performer, but they are a bit pricey. also the best place to buy your shocks from is shockwarehouse.com. use the code FORD5 and you'll get 5% off. this is what i did when i had my F250

What would be a shock that doesn't make the truck ride harder for a leaf sprung 4x4 SD? Would the yellow bilsteins be better? I think those are 4600.
Between the cheaper ones, what are the smoother riding ones - KYB, Monroe, or Gabriel? Shockwarehouse seems to have the KYB GR2s fairly cheap... I don't mind spending 300 bucks if they're gonna make a huge difference on a stock truck, but if there's no point in going that high and can get a smooth ride with cheaper stuff, I'll be happy with them... Right now the shocks are so worn out it's like riding a 6000lb pogo stick

I got mine from 4 Wheel Parts, they have some awesome deals when you buy a set of 4 shocks. My RS5000s were $169 for the set of 4, I think a set of 4 9000s was $299.

The Edelbrock IAS shocks ride like OEM shocks in a straight, but with slightly less shudder over bumps. The most noticeable improvement will be how the truck corners, you'll feel like you're driving a sport car... Well, a 4 ton sport car.
I have the Bilsteins and when empty the truck rides a little stiffer but that is also a good thing in the cornering deptartment and when hauling the trailer. If I had to do it again i would try the adjustable rancho (XL9000??) if the pricing was similiar.
