Lift

I have a powerstroke crewcab and a 6" skyjacker lift put on it. I am looking into going higher and thinking of purchasing the shackle that "THE EDGE" makes from donahoe racing. Has anyone heard of doing this and does anyone have any comments? What will it cost me and what else will I have to purchase. I did not have to change anything with the six inch lift but I am assuming that I will if I add the shackles and leaf springs to the rear.

Lift

i would assume your talking about the EDGE hangar kit and shackle?? that will work great with your skyjacker springs, i run 6" skyjacker springs up front with a fabtech 3.5" hangar, NOW the back ant goinna go up 4.5" with a add leaf, most add a leafs are for stock applications, the stock sprins are almost level with no arc, youll probably have to go blocks, i run a 8" skyjacker rear spring on a 5" block, EDGE offers a couple differnt hangar kits like 4.5 and 3" or something Either way you will need to at least space the carrier bearing more and extend the front driveline... I have a one piece rear driveline, with that much lift youll find out why, initial takeoffs lots of shudder as the carrier bearing flexes all over the place........... Longer pitman arm, longer sway bar connects, brake lines, longer trac bar, that be it, your good to go.....

Cool Lift

HIROLLN is doing just that....going from 6" Skyjacker to 10.5" using the Edge 4.5" hanger/shackle lift. Keithf went from 6" Nationals to 10.5" w/ the Edge 4.5".....

IMO, when you go over 8" of lift you SHOULD do crossover steering and trac bar relocation. Others may disagree but over 8" increases the amount of stress on the sector shaft on the sterring box and possibly the drag link can run into the passenger side leaf pack with the suspension at full droop.

You can get the trac bar relocation and new sway bar links from Edge. Crossover can be gotten from ORU, I think Full Throttle, Truckin is supposed to make one, and I have been told that the Edge is working on one too. If you are doing it right now, I'd probably go with the ORU....if it won't be done for a little while you can also check with Donahoe Racing to see when theirs will be available and the approx. cost. If you have full 6" springs in the rear you can add 5" or 5.5" of block...........if not get some 8" springs and blocks or full custom spring. Also will need new longer shocks.

Rough est on cost (approx to the best of my knowledge, could be wrong):
Edge 4.5"=$500
Edge Front Box kit for 10.5" lift=$770
ORU x-over=$950+550 core (refunded with the return of your undamaged, unmodified steering knuckle)

Shocks(not sure which you like but to give you an idea):
Bilstein 7100s (donahoe's valving)=$185 ea
Bilstein 5100s= $75 ea.

Assuming you have 6" springs:
5" Rear Block=$55
Rear U-bolts =$50
Or get a 5.5" rear block, or the custom springs, etc....

Driveshafts will need to be modified (lengthened($100-200.), clearanced(if you do it free), and shim kit ($35) for rear carrier bearing. Or, you can always get new custom driveshafts done i.ei. one piece for the rear, or a 2 piece from High Angle Drivelines that won't vibe like the stock one.

Another option for the x-over and trac bar relocation is the Dynatrac SD combo that also gives you an axle/hub/bearing upgrade but I believe (according to Dynatrac's site) goes for around $2900.

Hope this helps.

Well, it appears that there may be a new wrinkle in the x-over....

Might want to call ORU about this.
