Hello everyone and thanks in advance for your intent to help with this problem. my truck.99 f350 drw, stick shift,crew,300k this truck is new to me, god knows what it's gone through..When the truck sits idle for a few hours the temp is normal. when I drive 15 miles at 50 mph it starts overheating and blows coolant through reservoir. when I pullover n let it idle it cools back down in 10 min. The fan clutch feels nice n tight. I just installed
A new thermostat, new hoses top and bottom, fresh coolant motorcraft gold, I just did all injector cups and flushed the system also new up pipes
It sounds like the radiator may have kicked the bucket. After it's good and hot, shut down the motor and see if you have any cold spots on the radiator. Is it an early or late 99? I'm not sure if the MC gold is compatible with the e99 trucks. Also, I had about 10lbs of wheat grass stuck in the lower half of my radiator after driving through a field doing some work, it wasn't over heating at all, but it's possible you have a blockage somewhere.
Where did you get the thermostat? Are you sure the stat has the long shaft? We had this happen to one of our guys here and come to find out, he had the short shaft stat in his housing.
I would put a real temp gauge on first, you said it idled for hours and did'nt get hot, it should get hotter sitting still, moving thru the air should be cooler, sounds like water pump can't keep up when running higher rpm's, or you have air pocket in cooling system when you changed the cooling.
truck is an early 99 model the thermostat was purchased at ford. Long shaft. Coolant is boiling out of the reservoir only while driving.when truck is just idling it is at it's normal temperature. and everything seems to be fine. The coolant stops boiling out of the reservoir. Water pump is new. An air pocket in cooling system could be the problem. Or the radiator kicked the bucket. Has anyone encountered this problem. I am expecting a new radiator by tomorrow, how do I find and remove the air pocket?

How long have you owned the truck? Has it always done this or did it start after you done all of this work on it? Did you put the thermostat in upside down?
It's the radiator. Several of us have been through this. The 7.3 does not poduce enough heat at idle to overheat. Once you add load, an old clogged radiator will not keep up. Mine would flow a water hose but that was about it. It's easy to replace.
you guys are right! i removed the radiator and found a truck load of dirt on it,the inside was clean no corrosion, for the outside i sprayed simple gren and hose the thing down, than i realized how dirty it was as far as the air in the system i left the upper hose off while putting coolant in it and i did noticed the air coming out of it ,my guess is thats how to remove the air pocket out of the system, thank you guys for your reply on this as far as my new radiator i'm going to keep it being that i have 4 f350's from 99 to 01 eventually i will have use for it
