Just purchased 2 cases from my local O'Rieleys. As I was adding the new fluid on a drain & fill I got to reading the label. "Do not use for applications where Mercon LV fluids are recommended." From all my reading I was under the impression Mercon LV is the recommended fluid now? Why does it say this if the two are suppose to be compatible? I will stick with SP until it is unavailable any longer. Also as I was pouring, it smelled like burnt trans fluid to me. Anyone else ever notice that?
Yeah, SP stinks bad. I wouldn't call it a burnt smell, so I hope that isn't anything important.
As for the LV note, it simply means that LV is backward compatible, but SP is not forward compatible. It is fine to use SP in your truck because that is the OEM specification.
I'm with you, and wish they had not discontinued the SP product. We have to just trust Ford that LV is every bit as good as SP, and I just cannot muster much trust in FMC decisions. I think they value their bottom line more than they value mine.
LOL, oh I agree with u 100% on that. Thanks for clearing that SP - LV thing up. Would it make sense to stock up on the SP? My local O'Reileys claims they have an unlimited supply of it from its supplier.
Personal choice, I guess. I don't stock up on fluids or filters or anything like that. It's just not the way I roll. Sooner or later I'll have to use LV, so let it be.
