I had my P/S system flushed a while back. The fluid (Mercon ATF) looks new and is the correct level on the stick. Sometimes it is difficult to turn the wheel at a stop. Could it be the larger tires I am running (285/75/16D) or what? I had 265/75/16E before and with those, the wheel seemed to move easier. I greased the zerks on the steering components about 1K miles ago, I have no noise or leaks in the P/S system. I have a new Rancho steering stabilizer installed 2K ago.

I noticed the same thing when I got my truck, it came on 285's when I bought it. A few weeks later I noticed the stock stabilizer had been damaged so I changed it out and things got really hard to turn after that. It was a chore to turn, going slow or stopped, but when I changed over to 265's for towing the steering improved quite a bit. Just a price you pay for running bigger tires I think.
I have the same problem...but I have had the problems since I bought the truck and it came with C-rated 265's. I am thinking that I either have a steering box that is kind of binding or that my ball joints are bad.(ceased) I have checked them with a bar and lifted the truck and they seem tight but I am thinking that with 100k on the ball joints, this may be my problem. I have buddy with 285's on his 04 (100K) and with his v10 it turns without any effort at any speed, so something is wrong with mine! I too put a new steering stabilizer on about 10K ago. If anyone figures this out please p.m me!
I had this same problem. Had the P/S flushed, no improvment. I also had to replace 3 steering stabilizers in about 18 months, they kept going bad and leaking. Finally found a Ford mech. that knew what to look for. My truck with 74,000 miles has ceased ball joints. The mech. had me come in when the truck was on the lift with the tie rods disconnected and I could only turn the rotors forward and back about 2-3 inches before I had to use force and strength to push further. And I could not get from lock to lock. So amagine having the full weight of the truck on the ground and having the P/S forcing the wheels to turn. It cost me $1200 for all 4 ball joints replaced, needle bearings serviced, all new seals in the front end, and the front brakes serviced. Now my truck turns better then before when stopped, but I am sure it has more wear and tear on the other steering componets. I have had other vehicles with loose and worn ball joints, but this was a first for havind ceased ball joints. I'm glad the mechanic had me come in to see this.
