I'm selling my 2005 F250 XLT diesel super duty, as I no longer need to tow. I don't have much experience selling privately, and would appreciate insights on where to list. Based on your experiences, where would you recommend listing to sell a super duty truck (I live in San Jose CA).
free = craigslist
it is also full of scammers and other weirdo's looking to mess with you. but it's a good place to start
Autotrader.Com
more serious buyers look through this site. it does however cost $50 to post your vehicle.
Truck Sale Magazine
$10-20 typically to post, they distributed around a large area and lots of guys pick them up to find good trucks
Newspaper Classifieds
cheap, but not really effective IMO in this day and age of digital everything.
Whatever you do, take lots of pictures, and make sure they are good quality. When I'm looking and I see a ad with crappy pictures, I almost always click past. I hate seeing ads like below and no more info. I recommend you spend 1-2 hours looking around at similar trucks and price your truck accordingly.

Good condition, need to sell

nothing is more annoying than that. Make sure to add the motor, transmission, and MILEAGE. Also list the trim level. Sounds self explanatory...but you'd be surprised.
oh yeah, and a great trick to get the price you want. Price the truck about $1,000 to $1,500 above what you actually want. Then when the potential buyer asks if you can do any better, pause...look doubtful...hemm and haw...then say something like "I guess I can take $1,000 off if you buy it today". Everyone wants to get a deal. Help feed that feeling
Something that really turns me off is when, usually car dealers, list all the minutia on the car to make it sound like it has a lot of options. A long paragraph listing driver air bag, passenger air bag, map light, clock, seat belts, floor mats, clearcoat paint, cup holders, trip odometer and any other crap that every single vehicle has just junks up your ad and makes people like me gloss over it and move on. List things you would want to know if you were buying, like dually, leather, sun roof, sound system, and any other things that may make it unique and desireable.
I almost ONLY look on craigslist. There is a good selection. When I bought my truck I found it on the side of the road with small lettering on the back window that said "For Sale 805-###-####" and that was it. The owner didnt want to sell it because he loved it but he had to, so to appease his wife he put the small letter on there so he could say he was at least trying I just happened to drive by while he was at his sons baseball game.

I cant stand when people are selling a truck and dont know anything about it. I once saw an F250 XL advertised as "F250 EXTRA LARGE".
