First Vehicle - starting slow

I just bought my first vehicle. '95 F250 XL 5.8L 4x4. I've got a local shop to put dual exhaust on it. Planning to leave the stock manifolds. Do I need to up-size the down pipe before the CAT or just come off the CAT with a Flowmaster 40 then 2.5" dual pipes from there? Wanting a cool sound and a little better performance (nothing too radical). Any suggestions welcome.

Use 3" in the single piping and you should be fine.

x2 A single 3 in pipe will do fine. You can do a y pipe to dual exits if you want. Duals wont help anything, and can be difficult to make if you have 4x4 or dual tanks. Get rid of the cats if emissions in your state allow it. Also suggest something other than Flowmaster 40's, they tend to drone. Magnaflow and Thrush are good.

BTW could we get some pics of your truck? We like that kinda stuff here

Some people like the drone. I like glasspacks just for that reason. I do my exhaust so I can hear it. But at the same time it does get irritating after a while.

I always have a stereo that will cancel it out though .
